Adams Park Grand Opening - May 19, 2012

Saturday, May 19, 2012 marked the culmination of over three years of hard efforts and massive revitalization, when the grand opening and dedication was held for the beautiful new Adams Park Apartments in Trenton, Mo.

Once the community High school which was built in 1923, this historical building has gone through several uses over the decades and lay abandoned for a few years until Hamilton Properties Corporation took notice and targeted Adams Park to become a grand senior living experience featuring 35 apartment homes with community features such as a huge auditorium, roomy hotel style lobby, large library, internet cafe, exercise facility and many other resident benefits.

The grand opening day included a community dinner, tours of the entire property, and the dedication ceremony with remarks by Ken, Ryan and Douglas Hamilton of Hamilton Properties Corporation as well as manager Cindy Soptic. Also speaking were Steve Maxey (former student and Director of Development for North Central Missouri College), Cathy Smith (former Mayor of Trenton), Ralph Boots (Trenton Economic Development Director), Pete Ramsel (former director of Missouri Housing Development Corporation), and resident Kathy Coon who directed very heartfelt comments thanking the owners, and the management and maintenance staff for creating such a beautiful home for elderly and disabled people in Trenton and expressed the thanks from the residents for the opportunity to live in Adams Park with all of it's amenities. Mrs. Coon also singled out maintenance man Robert Hutchison for all of his much appreciated hard work, and presented manager Cindy Soptic with a bouquet of red roses in thanks for her resident-friendly service and managerial efforts.

The comments were followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony on the front lawn, officially opening Adams Park Apartments to once again serve the city of Trenton as an active and important part of daily life for so many of it's residents.

Presenting the latest in Hamilton Properties community revitalization accomplishments, the Adams Park Apartments at Trenton, Mo.

In our ongoing efforts to re-develop important historical community buildings into the finest in apartment homes, Hamilton Properties Corporation of Springfield Mo., through one of it's subsidiary groups, Cardinal Developers, has taken the abandoned former Trenton High School and created the city's finest apartment community, Adams Park Apartments.  This wonderful community is designed for adults 55 years of age and older and includes several features for handicapped needs.

Construction began on the former school in 1917 was completed in 1924 at a budgeted cost of $175,000 and opened with the lower two floors for high school classes and the top floor as the Trenton Junior College.  The building remained in service as the high school until 1967 when the junior college moved to new quarters and the new Trenton High School was opened.  At that time, this classic building became the Trenton Junior High School and remained so until the late 1980's when it closed and was later re-opened as an antique mall.

After a few years as the mall, the building was closed and local debate began as to whether it should be saved or razed for some future use of the land.

In November of 2009, two important events took place to save this wonderful structure.  Cardinal Developers was able to secure ownership for re-development, and the building itself qualified and was named  to the national Historic Register.  At that time, Cardinal Developers, along with its subsidiary groups within Hamilton Properties Corporation, and with the supervising partnership of the Missouri Housing Development Corporation, began the process of acquiring Federal and State Historic Tax Credits as well as State and Federal Low Income Tax Credits to begin the actual re-construction process.

After lengthy design sessions with our architects and careful planning to execute every sequence of the restoration, lead paint and asbestos abatement began in early 2010,  followed by the long process of rebuilding the school into what is now a total of 35 outstanding senior apartment homes.  Twenty-five are 2-bedroom and 1.5 or 2 bathroom homes and the remaining ten are 1-bedroom/1-bathroom homes.

All units feature fully equipped kitchens, washer and dryer connections, central (all electric) heat and air conditioning, and senior friendly options.  Elevators serve all floors.

Adams Park has many amenities to enhance the lifestyle for our residents.  We have preserved a large portion of the auditorium for entertainments including projection movies and have a large lounge, library, exercise room, community kitchen, office, dining area, resident storage, billiard room, sitting area and internet cafe.

We are very proud to have been able to resurrect one of Trenton's finest historical structures and to have returned it to the community in the form of wonderful new living space for many of it's citizens.

We are doubly proud that this construction project is GREEN GLOBES certified.

Welcome to Adams Park Apartments, your wonderful new home and new lifestyle in Trenton, Mo.
